Amazon lying on description
Nice tv set, works well so far. The universal remote does not seem to be able to operate a comcast box but overall good4 stars. That makes an average of 3 stars because amazon gets 2!!! My tv was supposed to be in mint condition and refurbished. When I got it I discovered tons of scratches everywhere on the panel and surrounding plastic, there was brown taped all over the set which took hours to remove and the batteries of the remote were dead! Add to that the $150 price drop 2 days after I ordered and you get a real feeling that you made a poor deal.
Hard to beat
There are a number of already very detailed and well written reviews here on this HDTV and since it's out of production now I won't add to them except to say they are very accurate. We bought ours towards the end of this models run and for the deal we got (which meant getting a 52" instead of a 46" for the same price or actually less) I couldn't see a better 1080p 60 Hz HDTV out there. I studied the 65 against the 120Hz 71 model and the Sony Bravias and there was absolutely nothing that could justify the extra money except that the bezels on this era and model of Samsungs left a bit to be desired compared to the Bravia as far as quality. The newer 550, 650 and 750 series Samsungs have in my opinion much improved bezels. However, that rather cheap plastic black bezel isn't what you watch and unless I pay a lot of attention to it it's really hard to find anything wrong. It's operated flawlessly since removed from the box and set up. If you are happy with something that doesn't have quite all the bells and whistles of the newer Samsung replacements and at the much cheaper price these are bringing now I wouldn't pass it up however they're getting difficult to find now.
Don't buy from Out of the Attic
I never received the TV from the merchant, Out of the Attic, and after three attempts to contact them, they still never responded. Fortunately, Amazon refunded my money, though. I noticed another customer review with almost the exact same problem, but I gave the merchant one more chance. Well, it looks like I've confirmed that this is either the most unreliable merchant or they don't even exist. I strongly caution anyone from buying from them, and I suggest Amazon drop them as one of their merchants.
Great TV, great price, no complaints
This TV has exceeded my expectations. I've had it over 7 months and I still find it amazing. It works great for games as well as blu-ray.
Oddly, glare from the shiny screen has not been a problem for me. On a bright day I occasionally turn up the backlight to see the darkest colors in certain games, but I think this is more a function of the physics of the human eye adjusting to light and not anything to do with the shiny screen. By the opposite token, nitpickers may complain that the darkest blacks aren't pitch black in a *darkened* room, but this isn't very noticeable except in credits or in dark horror films/games. The price difference between this and the next model up doesn't justify the small advantage of ultra-dark blacks to to me. I used that savings to get a PS3 on which to view blu-ray disks.
If you can call it a drawback, this TV doesn't feature 120hz technology, which gives live action movies a home video look and cg movies a video game look - neither of which looks "right" to me.
One of the best 52" 1080p LCD TV on the market
The TV is very easy to setup. The picture quality is fantastic. Before the purchase, we compared this model to other brands and found the Samsung had the best picture quality. The contrast is very good on this TV. Highly recommended!
