Product Description
Your search for an Apple Video iPod (30GB) case, skin, or cover is now over. The invisibleSHIELD is an exceptionally clear and virtually indestructible film that will protect your Video iPod 30GB from unsightly scratches. The exclusive nano-memory technology covers and shields your device, keeping it as pristine as the day you took it out of the box. The precision pre-cut invisibleSHIELD applies directly to your Video iPod 30GB, providing the toughest, most durable protection you will find. The invisibleSHIELD has its origins in the military, where it was used to protect high-speed helicopter blades from dust, dirt and debris. Now you can use that same powerful technology to protect your Video iPod 30GB. The invisibleSHIELD is only .2 millimeters thick making it the slimmest Video iPod 30GB skin or Video iPod 30GB cover of its kind. It is so tough that ShieldZone backs it with a lifetime guarantee. So, if it ever does wear or scratch, ShieldZone will replace it for free, for the life of your device. And if you ever need to remove the invisibleSHIELD, no problem; it comes off clean and leaves no sticky residueCustomer reviews
Works Well, Not So Difficult
The reviewers who couldn't apply this thing are suffering from either fatal clumsiness or misplaced perfectionism. Even though it is obvious that there is a piece of plastic on your screen, it is totally unobtrusive if you are at all careful applying it. And it is certainly more attractive, a bubble or two notwithstanding, than either a scratched iPod or a big, clunky case.
Better than most of the other protections but...
I wanted to give my iPod 30Gb to my girlfriend for her birthday and I ordered an Invisible Shield in order to get a new and clean protection for it. My iPod was not new, and even if I took care of it as much as I could since I bought it, there was some imperfections on the back, but the front was good as new.
The InvisibleShield is very painful to set up, you will have to get rid of every possible dust that may mess around with your device, or you will end up with some horrible bubbles under the shield. After I set it up, I waited for about 10 hours for the result. On the front, the shield was very nicely set up, no microbubbles or whatsoever. But, the back of the iPod wasn't as clean as the front and I have now 4 or 5 bubbles that (I think) will never disappear.
So, to conclude, if you plan to buy an InvisibleShield, set it up on a brand new iPod and it will be perfect, otherwise you will end up like me : not very satisfied.
Easier than it appears
Despite a lot of criticism on the application of the invisibleSHIELD, it is a rather easy process. Being possibly the least coordinated person I know, I was able to apply the full body shield onto my Blackberry Curve. Regarding fingerprints going onto the shield, if you apply some of the included shield spray onto your fingertips prior to beginning application of the shield (as the instructions say), that problem should be solved. Regarding bubbles, small ones may occur if you are not careful but if your willing to put in the time and effort needed to properly apply a great product, then you will finally be able to use that squegee to get the bubbles to the edges and out of the shield. A thorough application of the shield will take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. It should be planned out ahead of time with instructions, videos, and strategy reviewed. However, its not as difficult a task as it may appear or sound. It is simply one you need to take some time out of your day to do. Since these shields are for expensive electronic products, an hour out of your day is a small price to pay to keep them safe.
Junk
I found this impossible to apply to my device. No matter what I tried -- and yes, I followed the instructions to the letter and even watched the instructional video on YouTube -- there were bubbles under the plastic. While the larger bubbles could be "squeegeed" out, the small bubbles could not. Having even one tiny bubble in the middle of your video screen makes for a lousy viewing or reading experience.
This is a waste of money.
Watch out or it's a disaster
The idea of a sheer iPod protector is captivating, but keep a few things in mind before you toss away your cash. You basically have two choices for this type of ultra-sheer protector - the InvisibleShield or ShieldZone. Both require patience and advance reading:
= All the stories of this protector being difficult to apply are true. The protector is a thin, ultra-tough plastic that binds to your iPod's surface. First, you moisten your fingers, then peel it off and align it to the iPod's surface until it's completely covered. With larger sheets, positioning can take time and patience. When it's dry, the surface cures for a day and almost seems to become a part of your player, making it impervious to scratches and dust. However, alignment is crucial, and doing it incorrectly means you'll have to reapply a portion.
= Your fingers must be moist while applying the shield, but the plastic must be dry. Once applied successfully, squeeze out as many small bubbles as possible, and allow it to cure for a few days. The small bubbles will disappear - but accidental fingerprints will not.
= Wetness is the key. After initial failure, follow the instructions for reapplication. Follow the video instructions online meticulously before application.
= The results, when correctly applied, give you a protective seal strong enough to stand up to abuse from hard, sharp objects like keys and worse. It has a smooth feel that may surpass that of a regular iPod.
It's important to reiterate: follow the online video instructions, and carefully. Work slowly to achieve nothing less than a perfect fit. It took me almost an hour to apply mine, though speed will likely increase once you get the feel. The company is very courteous and responsive, but be aware that their lifetime warranty does NOT apply to failed applications, for the most part.
