Great sound. Survived getting wet!
I own this IM7 and the Bose sound dock. Both units sound great. The IM7 has a stronger base sound and on some music is perhaps a bit too strong, so I usually change the ipod's sound to less base. The volume is surprising! Ask my neighbor, 4 houses down from me. Just joking around I turned up the volume while on my porch and she heard it loud and clear. She said it sounded as though the band was playing in my back yard. A couple of weeks ago I left the IM7 on my covered boat dock thinking it was safe from weather. A nasty, windy squall blew in for several hours and I didn't retrieve the IM7 till the next morning. It was completely wet, water even inside the ipod docking area (ipod not in it at the time, thank goodness). I thought it was a goner, but after drying it with a hair dryer it's working fine again and is actually playing as I type this. I would buy another one if it does eventually rust out.
Waiting
Mine had what my husband calls 'speaker rattle.' I was heartbroken. The sound was spectacular except that even at 50% of volume and bass, my unit made a buzzing sound. I've returned it for an exchange and I hope I just happened to get a lemon and the next one will be perfect. Electronics Expo was very responsive and sent me a UPS sticker to make the return without costing me a cent. I will add to my review as soon as I get my replacement IM7! I need good sound and good bass really badly!
Great Sound & Features, Bad Door Design
I love the sound and the remote features and all of the ports on the back. However, after using it for several months, the DOOR will not close anymore. I have to use packing tape to keep it 'closed' and I have to use the cord that connects the iPod to the input jack on the back. Therefore, the iPod does not charge and constantly is using its own batteries. It is too bad that this system has a bad door design, otherwise, I would have given it five stars +!
This Thing BOOMS!
Overall, been very happy with this system. I bought it for my son for cross-country meets. He's a part-time DJ, so his bass demands are pretty high. This definitely delivered! We're very pleased with the sound quality and volume out of this. The battery life seems better than advertised, as well. The batteries held up for a bus trip to So. Ca. and back, 7 hours each way, no problem. Definitely go for the handle/strap device. It holds the unit securely and adds convenience, even if it does look like an S&M device...
After 3 Years, it still rocks!!
I bought this from Costco 3 years ago. Sound quality is awesome. It has even been on my airplane baggage twice. Other than the metel screen a little dented, I've got no issues. I went back to costco to see if I can upgrade. After playing around with all of them, nothing came in close to the sound quality the IM7 has. I don't remember the name of the setup I was testing out, but it did have it's own seperate sub. It was no even close to the IM7. The reason I was looking for a new Speaker dock was because I got a new 2nd Gen Ipod Touch. It does not fit in the tray with the Ipod protecter case. IT DOES HOWEVER FIT THE IPOD TOUCH. Just incase someone is searching on google to find the answer like I just did now. Altec Lansing IM7 does fit the Ipod Touch 2nd Gen. Sounds awesome too.
